Setting Hebrew (or Aramaic) type in Adobe InDesign (English version) creates punctuation errors. Periods jump to the front of sentences, parentheses are set in the wrong place, and commas disappear. Why is this happening and why haven’t more designers posted solutions?
- Download Adobe Media Encoder from your Creative Cloud application.
2. Flow the Hebrew copy into a text box and while your cursor is in the text box, click the menu option on the upper right corner of your InDesign toolbar.
3. Select “Adobe World-Ready Paragraph Composer.”
4a. Create a Paragraph Style for the Hebrew Copy and open the dialogue box. Click on “Insets and Spacing” and in Paragraph Direction, select “Right-to-Left.”
4b. Select Alignment: “Right” and select “OK” in the bottom right corner to save.
5. Once you apply the Paragraph Style to the Hebrew Body Copy, you’ll see that the punctuation is correct.
